Resize image help
Make a photo the exact width and height a form or website asks for. Type the pixels, or scale by a percentage, and keep the original proportions if you want. The image stays on your device.
How to use Resize image
- Choose the JPG, PNG or WebP photo you want to resize.
- Pick Width and height or Percentage under Resize by.
- Type the new size and check the New size line underneath.
- Click Resize image, then download the resized copy.
Options explained
- Resize by
- Width and height sets exact pixels. Percentage scales both sides, from 1 to 400 percent.
- Keep the original proportions
- On: the side you leave blank follows the other, and two sides set a box the photo fits inside. Off: the photo is stretched to both numbers.
- Save as
- Same as original keeps the format. JPG, PNG or WebP converts it at the same time.
Limits and supported files
JPG, PNG and WebP images up to 20,000 pixels wide or high.
PNG files of photos are much larger than JPG. A result that looks large can be made smaller with Compress image.
Results above about 16.7 million pixels are made smaller to fit what browsers allow. Choose up to 100 images at a time.
Tested in Chromium, Firefox and WebKit. If a browser cannot save WebP, you get a PNG and the page says so.
Questions
How do I resize a photo without stretching it?
Leave “Keep the original proportions” on and type only the width. The height follows. If you type both, the photo fits inside that box.
Can I make an image bigger?
Yes, up to 400 percent. Enlarging cannot add detail, so a small photo made bigger looks soft.
Does resizing change the file format?
No. Save as starts on Same as original, so a JPG stays a JPG and a PNG stays a PNG. You can pick another format there.
Is my photo uploaded to resize it?
No. Your browser resizes it on this device, and nothing is uploaded. You can check this yourself on the verify page.
