Fast Web View help

Prepare a PDF for progressive loading in viewers that support Fast Web View. The local QPDF engine rearranges the file and verifies its page-loading hints. It does not downsample pictures or replace text, and the output may be larger. Viewing speed also depends on the viewer and hosting server.

How to use Fast Web View
  1. Choose a PDF and select Prepare PDF.
  2. If the document has a digital signature, read the warning and acknowledge that a new copy invalidates it. Keep the original.
  3. Wait for Fast Web View verified, then use Preview result to check the generated PDF.
  4. Download PDF. For several documents, use Process all files and download the successful results separately or together.
Options explained
Prepare PDF
Rewrites the file for progressive loading without changing image resolution or text. A verification failure prevents download.
Preview result
Shows the actual generated PDF. Original and Side by side views are available for unencrypted documents.
Digital signatures
A rewritten copy invalidates existing cryptographic signatures. The original file remains unchanged. Signed batch files fail individually unless you have acknowledged this for the selected files.
Batch queue
Prepares each PDF independently. A failed or password-locked file does not remove successful neighboring results.
Cancel
Stops the document and engine workers. Cancelled jobs cannot publish a late result.
Limits and supported files

PDF files, including owner-restricted files that open with an empty password. PDFs requiring an opening password need an unlocked copy first.

Up to 128 MB input and output. File restructuring can increase size; browser memory may require a smaller file.

Up to 2,000 pages, with a two-minute processing deadline. Actual loading speed depends on the viewer and host.

A current browser with WebAssembly, workers, cryptographic hashing and gzip decompression. The local engine is included in the initial offline cache.

Up to 100 files within the shared queue's memory budget. Each PDF is prepared and checked separately; failed files are reported.

Does Fast Web View make my PDF smaller?

Not necessarily. It reorganizes PDF data and adds page-loading hints. Use Compress PDF to reduce image data or file size; compression and Fast Web View serve different purposes.

Will every PDF viewer open this copy faster?

No. Progressive loading requires a compatible viewer and server delivery, often byte-range requests. A local fully downloaded PDF may show no speed difference.

Are my text, pictures, forms and bookmarks rebuilt?

No. QPDF rewrites the document structure without rasterizing pages or replacing fonts. Normal content, forms and bookmarks remain. Existing digital signatures become invalid because the file bytes change.

Can I prepare a password-protected PDF?

If it opens without a password, the local engine can prepare it while retaining its encryption. If it requires an opening password, use Unlock PDF first. This tool does not guess passwords.

Which open-source engine performs Fast Web View?

QPDF 12.4.2 runs locally in WebAssembly. Its Apache licence, linked-component notices and pinned build provenance are available on the Open-source licences page.
