Compress PDF to 3 MB help

Choose a PDF and try to bring it under 3 MB. Some upload forms set a 3 MB limit, and scans, photo reports or slides saved as PDF often go over it. Text stays selectable, and the page tells you if the result misses the limit.

How to use Compress PDF to 3 MB

  1. Choose the PDF you need under 3 MB.
  2. Keep the 3 MB target selected, or pick another quick size.
  3. Click Compress PDF to start working toward 3 MB. You can cancel at any time.
  4. Check that it is now under 3 MB, look over the first page, then download.
Options explained
Choose a target file size
Starts at 3 MB. Pick a different quick size if your limit is lower. Sizes use 1024 bytes per KB.
Remove saved document details
Optionally remove title and author properties; names printed on pages remain.
Use stronger compression
On by default here. Turn it off to keep images sharper. Works best with scanned PDFs and PDFs with images. Images may look blurry or lose detail. Check small print in the preview. Your target size is not guaranteed.
Limits and supported files

Unlocked PDF documents, including text and images. Signed files require confirmation to create a changed copy.

The requested size is an aim, not a guarantee. Large image files may stay above it even after compression. Stronger compression can make images noticeably softer; review the preview.

Tests covered 1,000 simple text pages and generated image PDFs up to 200 MB. Large files may use the full search time and remain above your target.

Tested in Chromium, Firefox and WebKit. Large-file checks used a 100 KB target.

Questions

Can every PDF fit within 3 MB?

Most can. A long scan with many photos may not. You get the smallest copy it found, and the page tells you if it missed 3 MB.

Will compressing to 3 MB lower the quality much?

Text stays sharp. Pictures are resized or saved at lower quality, and stronger compression can make them softer. Zoom into the preview to check.

My PDF is still over 3 MB. What can I do?

Stronger compression is already on here. If the result is still too big, split the PDF into parts with Split PDF, or remove pages you do not need.

Is my PDF uploaded to compress it to 3 MB?

No. Your browser does the work on this device, so your PDF is never uploaded.
