When you ask SBI for an account e-statement by SMS, the PDF opens with the 4-digit code you put in that SMS. SBI sends the statement to your registered email, and you type your code to open it. Statements from YONO or SBI net banking may use a different password; the email they come with says which. If someone needs the statement without a password, save a copy with Unlock PDF on your own device.

Request an e-statement by SMS

SBI describes this on its State Bank Quick page.

  1. From your registered mobile number, send an SMS to 09223588888.
  2. Type ESTMT, a space, your account number, a space, then any 4-digit code you choose. For example: ESTMT 12345678901 4821.
  3. SBI emails the statement to your registered email address as a password-protected PDF.
  4. Open the PDF and type the same 4-digit code. In the example, that's 4821.

Choose a code you'll remember, and don't reuse your ATM PIN.

Statements from YONO or net banking

SBI's State Bank Quick page covers only the SMS route. A statement you download or email from YONO or SBI net banking can use a different password. Look in the email or on the download screen for the rule, and use that.

Save a copy without the password

  1. Open Unlock PDF and choose your statement. It stays on this device. Nothing is uploaded.
  2. Type the password in PDF password, such as your 4-digit code.
  3. Select “I have permission to unlock these PDFs.”
  4. Click Unlock PDF, then download the copy.
  5. Open the new copy and check that every page is there.

Share the unlocked copy only with people who need it. Anyone who has it can read your transactions.

Put the transactions into a spreadsheet

Use PDF to Excel on the unlocked copy, then check the dates, amounts and number of entries against the original.

Common problems

No email arrived Check that you sent the SMS from your registered mobile number and that SBI has your email address.

Questions

Can I choose my own password for an SBI e-statement?

Yes, for the SMS route. The 4-digit code you add to the ESTMT message becomes the password for that statement.

Why doesn't my code open an SBI statement from net banking?

The code only applies to statements requested by SMS. Statements from YONO or net banking can use a different password, shown in the email or on the download screen.

Is my SBI statement uploaded when I unlock it here?

No. Unlock PDF works in your browser on this device, so the statement stays with you. You can check this yourself on the verify page.
