Use localipdf with AI agents (WebMCP)
WebMCP is a new browser feature that lets an AI assistant in your browser use a website's tools directly. On localipdf it is optional and off until you turn it on for a tool.
What an agent can do
After you choose Let AI agents use this tool on a tool page, an assistant in your browser can list the tools, read their help, open a tool, change its options, run it and save the result. Processing still happens on your device.
What stays with you
Agents cannot choose files, read your documents, see file names or passwords, or tick confirmations such as permission to unlock a file. You choose the files and confirm those steps yourself.
Supported browsers
Chrome 146 or newer on a computer supports WebMCP after you turn on its WebMCP setting. Microsoft Edge has early support behind a setting. Firefox, Safari and phone browsers do not support it yet. Few AI assistants use WebMCP so far; Google has said Gemini in Chrome will.
Turn it on in Chrome
Copy chrome://flags/#enable-webmcp-testing, paste it into a new tab and press Enter. Set it to Enabled and click Relaunch. Websites cannot open this settings page for you.
Use it
Open a tool, choose your files, then choose Let AI agents use this tool below the workspace. Copy the suggested prompt into your browser's AI assistant. Turn it off at any time from the same place.
