The password for an HDFC Bank account statement PDF is your numeric Customer ID. It's the number you use to log in to HDFC Bank NetBanking. Type it when the PDF asks. If a loan application or an accountant needs the statement without a password, save a copy with Unlock PDF on your own device.

Where the password comes from

HDFC Bank says so in its own guide to downloading a statement in NetBanking: the statement downloads as a password-protected file, and "your numerical Customer ID is the password to statement file". Use digits only.

This guide covers account statements. HDFC Bank credit card statements use a different password; check the email that came with your card statement for its rule.

Open the statement

  1. Log in to HDFC Bank NetBanking, go to Account Statements and select Get Statement.
  2. Choose the account and the period, then select Download.
  3. Open the downloaded PDF. It asks for a password.
  4. Type your Customer ID, the same number you log in with.

Save a copy without the password

Some lenders, landlords and accountants ask for a statement that opens without a password. You can make that copy without sending your bank statement to any website.

  1. Open Unlock PDF and choose your statement. It stays on this device. Nothing is uploaded.
  2. Type your Customer ID in PDF password.
  3. Select “I have permission to unlock these PDFs.”
  4. Click Unlock PDF, then download the copy.
  5. Open the new copy and check that every page and transaction is there.

Share the unlocked copy only with people who need it. Anyone who has it can read your transactions.

Put the transactions into a spreadsheet

To total spending or prepare a tax return, turn the statement into rows and columns with PDF to Excel. It works on the unlocked copy, and the bank statement to Excel guide shows how to check the dates, amounts and number of transactions afterwards.

Common problems

What happens What to do
The password is rejected Type the numeric Customer ID only, with no spaces. Your NetBanking password is a different thing.
You don't know your Customer ID It's the ID you log in to NetBanking with. HDFC Bank can tell you how to find it.
A credit card statement won't open Card statements use a different password. Check the statement email for its rule.
The unlocked copy is too large for a form Use Compress PDF, then check that the figures are still clear.

Questions

Is my NetBanking password the same as the statement password?

No. The statement opens with your numeric Customer ID, not the password you log in with. Never type your NetBanking password into a PDF or a website that asks for a statement password.

Does unlocking an HDFC Bank statement send it anywhere?

No. Unlock PDF runs in your browser on this device, so the statement is never uploaded. You can check this yourself on the verify page.

Can I unlock the statement if I've forgotten my Customer ID?

You need the correct password to open or unlock the file, and Unlock PDF does not guess passwords. Find your Customer ID first, then unlock the statement.
